What I bring to creativity coaching

As both a psychotherapist and a senior-level coach, I bring a depth of experience and a particular way of seeing, that makes this work more than surface-level.

Creativity coaching with me draws on a therapeutically informed foundation. That means we don’t just chase productivity or set goals for the sake of it. We get to the roots.

I’m accredited as a counsellor with the BACP and as a Senior Practitioner coach with the EMCC. But more than the qualifications, what I bring is twofold:

  • Lived experience as a creative person—with my own frustrations, breakthroughs and long stretches of figuring things out.

  • Over two decades of therapeutic work—supporting people through anxiety, confusion, depression and creative stuckness.

This combination allows me to meet you at a deeper level. I understand the intensity of creative longing. I know the quiet despair of getting in your own way. I also know what it takes to create good work (and a good life) amid recession, burnout, or a culture that often seems allergic to depth.

Whether your struggle is internal (fear, perfectionism, inertia) or practical (time, money, structure), our work will honour both. We’ll look at the creative process not as a side-hobby or performance metric, but as something central to your life.

My Influences

I’ve been shaped by many teachers in the worlds of creativity and personal transformation. Some of the most significant:

  • Eric Maisel – whose work on creativity and meaning helped shape my early practice

  • Robert Fritz – on structure and the dynamics of creative process

  • Mindfulness – as a way to cultivate spaciousness, attention and presence

  • Archetypal psychology – especially the poetic, layered insights of James Hillman and Thomas Moore

I’m also continuously inspired by the lives of working artists, especially those who struggled with internal demons yet persisted. Van Gogh is one example among many.

A Bit More About Me

Before this chapter of my work, I was a journalist writing for publications like The Times. I trained as an actor. I’ve had poems published (and rejected) by journals including Poetry Review. I know what it’s like to put your work out into the world and hope it lands.

I’ve lived in London but have also spent years in rural Oxfordshire, West Cornwall and abroad. I’m interested in the many shapes a meaningful life can take, not just the ones we’re sold.

My own practices include meditation, shamanic work, and training as a curandero (a healer in the Mexican tradition). These threads aren’t part of coaching sessions, but they do inform the way I work: respectfully, intuitively, and with a long view of what change really involves.
